Resurfacing Glossary
Acrylic Coating
A durable, high-gloss material applied to tubs, showers, and sinks during the resurfacing process. It provides a smooth finish that resists moisture, stains, and daily wear.
Bonding Agent
A specialized chemical that helps new coatings adhere to the original surface. This step ensures the resurfaced finish remains durable and long-lasting.
Cast Iron Tub
A heavy, traditional bathtub made from cast iron and coated with enamel. Instead of replacing it, resurfacing restores its appearance and preserves its classic charm.
Curing Time
The period needed for a resurfaced surface to fully harden and reach maximum durability. Most Ideal Resurfacing projects cure within 24–48 hours.
Epoxy Coating
A light surface preparation process that helps coatings adhere properly to porcelain, tile, or fiberglass by removing gloss and minor residue.
Fiberglass Tub or Shower
A lightweight, molded fixture found in many modern homes. Resurfacing restores faded or cracked fiberglass to a clean, like-new finish.
Glazing (or Reglazing)
Often used interchangeably with “resurfacing,” this term refers to applying a new topcoat to restore color, shine, and protection to a bathtub or sink.
Porcelain Enamel
A glass-like coating baked onto metal tubs and sinks during manufacturing. When it becomes chipped or dull, resurfacing restores its original gloss and strength.
Primer
The first layer applied before refinishing to ensure strong adhesion between the old surface and the new coating.
Refinishing
The professional process of repairing, prepping, and coating an existing surface (like a tub, sink, or countertop) to make it look brand new without replacement.
Resurfacing
Another term for refinishing — involves restoring worn or damaged surfaces using specialized coatings that renew both appearance and durability.
Topcoat
The final, protective layer that seals the surface. It gives your refinished fixture its signature shine and resistance to moisture, chemicals, and scratches.
Touch-Up Repair
A minor restoration performed on small chips or cracks without fully refinishing the entire surface.
Warranty (Ideal Resurfacing)
Our commitment to quality craftsmanship and lasting results. All Ideal Resurfacing projects are backed by a limited warranty for your peace of mind.
